New release – XINNERS by Wayne Simmons

Apparently there was a football match last night which may have distracted some of our UK readers, so today we’re repeating news of our latest release. XINNERS by WAYNE SIMMONS is a pulpy science-fiction horror story he describes as ‘Dawn of the Dead meets Battle Beyond the Stars’. And if that description doesn’t get your pulse racing, you’re either too young to have seen Battle Beyond the Stars or you’re as dead as one of the zombies inhabiting the massive, derelict space ship where the book takes place. More details here. The book’s available from Amazon here.

9780957656352-Perfect.indd‘The literary equivalent of the classic horror films of the 80s. ‘ (Harry Manfredini, Film Composer: FRIDAY THE 13TH, THE HILLS HAVE EYES II, WISHMASTER)

You’ve been warned!
Stay away from Blackwater, Louisiana. Behind the smiles and the southern hospitality lies a dark secret.

You’ve been warned!
Don’t go in the woods. They’re haunted.

You’ve been warned!
Don’t go in the lake. There’s a dead witch beneath those waters.

Lori Sawyer was raised in these parts. The biracial descendant of a Voodoo Priestess, she’s known as “witchy girl” to her friends, Abby and Roxy. But to Lori, Blackwater is a sacred place, a crossroads of old southern, African, and French spirituality to be celebrated, not feared. In fact, it’s just the sort of environment to help free Abby from the memory of witnessing her boyfriend’s murder.

And from the guilt of having killed him.

In 1985 three friends will embark on a weekend getaway that will change their lives forever.

“Duza and Simmons have succeeded WILDLY in re-creating a classic horror flick from the ’80s – on the page! And if anyone knows about ’80s horror… it’s me.” Steve Johnson (Special FX Legend: THE HOWLING, AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON, GHOSTBUSTERS)

Michael Preissl represents IB as Language Rights Agent

There’s been a lot happening behind the scenes at IB Towers and today we’re delighted to reveal one of those things: we’ve just signed with Michael Preissl to sell foreign language rights of Infected Books titles.

Some of you will know Michael as chief of genre publisher, Voodoo Press, who have of course snapped up the German language rights of several Infected Books titles. We’re thrilled to now have Michael on board to pitch IB titles to other European countries and beyond.

Stay tuned for more news on this and other exciting developments at IB!

Covers of German language editions revealed…

The covers of two Infected Books titles picked up for translation into German language have been revealed by publisher Voodoo Press. The first will be quite familiar to IB readers, being a riff on the original cover of Wayne Simmons’ THE GIRL IN THE BASEMENT (designed by Sion Smith) while the other cover, designed by Michael Preissl, makes for a completely different take on David Moody’s TRUST.

We’ll bring you more details on these, and other Infected Books titles picked up by Voodoo for translation, as we get it.

Talking with Sion Smith (writer, editor, publisher and cover designer for THE GIRL IN THE BASEMENT)

Mr Sion Smith is no stranger around these parts. Having designed the cover for one of our bestselling titles, Wayne Simmons’ THE GIRL IN THE BASEMENT, he’s part of our ever growing Infected family! As Sion releases a new book, THE FAMILY OF NOISE, with a great evening at Waterstones to celebrate such, we sent our man Wayne to meet with him and have a chat about all things writerly and publishly. It’s going to be a long one so grab yourself a drink, kick back and enjoy!

VOODOO CHILD by Andre Duza & Wayne Simmons

11157991_10205866921488830_293016214_n[1]Coming August 2015 from Infected Books is VOODOO CHILD, a brand new horror novel by Andre Duza (DEAD BITCH ARMY, HOLLOW EYED MARY, KING DOLLAR) and Wayne Simmons (FLU, THE GIRL IN THE BASEMENT). VOODOO CHILD is a homage book, a love letter to the slasher craze of the 80s as well as the works of legendary horror hacks such as Richard Laymon. ‘The 80s was to horror cinema what the 60s was to the music industry,’ Duza comments. ‘Voodoo Child is in essence my thank you to the decade that raised me, and to the directors/ writers/ FX gurus that populated the era.’

The cover art for VOODOO CHILD is by veteran horror artist, Alex McVey, who has designed covers for such staples of the genre as Stephen King, Peter Straub and Joe Hill.

‘I think this cover speaks volumes of what you can expect from the book,’ Simmons points out. ‘Andre and I are a similar age. We’re both children of the 80s and remember the joys of visiting the local video store and choosing something from the horror section based solely on how gory and over-the-top and lewd the cover art was. This book speaks to the teenage gore hound still within many horror fans today.’

VOODOO CHILD will see release through Infected Books in August 2015 on both e-book and a special vintage-styled, pulp-sized paperback format.

Be very afraid…

Special announcement – introducing Wayne Simmons (again!)

We’re pleased to announce that Wayne Simmons has officially joined the Infected Books team. Wayne will be taking responsibility for much of the marketing and promotion of the IB catalogue, a role which will be increasingly important given the ambitious plans we have to expand the Infected empire in 2015 and beyond.

Of course, Wayne’s no stranger to these parts, having already been published by IB. His brutal noir novella GIRL IN THE BASEMENT has been a huge hit for us. You’ll also know him from his previous novels including FLU, DROP DEAD GORGEOUS, and PLASTIC JESUS (which the Guardian described as “a stunning read, but not for the faint hearted“). Wayne’s also the driving force behind SCARdiff – a new horror expo which takes place in Cardiff each October. It’s only two years old, but SCARdiff’s already earned itself a place on the discerning horror fan’s annual calendar.

IB head honcho David Moody said, “I’m thrilled to have Wayne on board with IB. We’ve been good friends for a long time and have similar views on genre and publishing as a whole. I’m looking forward to us working together more formally, and seeing just how far we can spread the infection!”
